Tag Archives: seven are an abomination

Six things…

“These six things the Lord hates,

Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:

A proud look,

A lying tongue,

Hands that shed innocent blood,

A heart that devises wicked plans,

Feet that are swift in running to evil,

A false witness who speaks lies,

And one who sows discord among brethren.” Proverbs 6:16‭-‬19 NKJV

Taken together or individually, these seven abominations are weighty indeed.

One might dodge a few of these, but can anyone say they’ve never lied?

What about “a proud look”?

When one meditates upon God and His goodness, it’s little wonder these things are an abomination to Him.

Each of these causes pain, strife, broken relationships, or evil of some form.

God is good, holy, just, loving, kind, merciful, full of grace and forgiveness.

He created this world without sin and it was very good.

But when sin entered, it began to mar His beautiful creation.

His faithfulness is incredible.

Through His sacrifice on the cross we can find freedom from sin and because of His resurrection from the tomb can we find freedom from death.

We have the opportunity to choose life through Christ and freedom from living in ways God finds abominable.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 NKJV — Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank You so much for Your Word. Thank You for showing us what You find abominable. Lord, help us to despise those things You despise, that we might not harm ourselves or others. Lord, please help us to be humble and honest, that we realize we are capable of sin like everyone else and that because of Your great mercy and grace we can choose life eternal in You. Lord, each of us is a work in progress. Our hearts, minds, and souls need to be washed by Your Word. We need to be redeemed by Your truth. Lord, please teach us how to love like You do, to be willing to die daily. Please let my life be Yours, entirely. Amen.
