Today’s prayer:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
John 1:1‭-‬5 KJV

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank You for being the light. Thank You for being holy, nothing mixed with evil or wickedness. Lord, thank You for being all that is good, true, and pure. Lord, thank You for being loving, kind, compassionate, long suffering, and full of mercy and grace. Thank You for being my refuge and strength. Thank You for reminding me that I am clay, my life but a vapor, my righteousness as filthy rags. Lord, thank You for cleansing me, for giving me eternal life, thank You for the hope of heaven. I love You, Jesus. Amen.

Let us remember

“The sun shall no longer be your light by day, Nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you; But the Lord will be to you an everlasting light, And your God your glory. Isaiah 60:19 NKJV https://bible.com/bible/114/isa.60.19.NKJV

For those who are followers of Jesus Christ, we need to remember this promise.

This world is not our permanent home.

The way things are now is not how they will always be.

Some day the world will change forever.

Revelation 6:1 NKJV — Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals; and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, “Come and see.”

Revelation tells of the Lamb opening the seals and the changes the world under goes.

It’s not a pretty picture, but in the middle is praise.

Revelation 7:9-10 NKJV — After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

Revelation 7:11-12 NKJV — All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying: “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, Thanksgiving and honor and power and might, Be to our God forever and ever. Amen.”

What better way to remember the truth of the future which awaits than by worshipping Jesus today.

Life doesn’t always bring us hearts full of gladness, but salvation should always bring us to praise.

Let us remember the promises of God and rejoice in the salvation of Jesus Christ!

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank You for salvation. Thank You for Your promise of eternal life with You. Lord, I can not even imagine what it will be like to be in Your presence, to never need the Sun or Moon again because You will shine continually. Lord, I can not contain my wonder at Your incredible blessing to us in the gift of salvation. Thank You for Your sacrifice. Thank You for Your promise of eternal life. Thank You for reminding me to praise You daily, practicing the joy of eternity right here in today. Thank You. Amen.

Today prayer:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
John 1:1‭-‬5 NKJV

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank You for coming to Earth and teaching us about Yourself. Thank You for being truth and the Word. Lord, I know all things are in Your hands and You can be trusted. Lord, from my perspective I can not understand all that happens, but I do know nothing is outside of Your understanding or direction. Thank You for always being in control, even when things seem opposite to us. Thank You for being truth. How great and mighty You are! How blessed we are to know You even a little. To have Your Word as our guide. To have breath each moment. To be given life eternal through Your sacrifice! I praise Your Holy name, Lord Jesus and I thank You for every detail. Thank You for being God born of a virgin, man who is Truth, and the perfect sacrifice for every sin and to top it off, You rose again defeating death and sin and the enemy all at once. Praise be to Your glorious name, Jesus!

Light

The circumstance when you’re trying to get through unfamiliar territory in the form of a dark room and someone turns on the overhead light:

Illuminating.

The time when you are driving in the pouring rain, windshield wipers full bore, and the clouds break, you drive out of the storm, the sun flitters down:

Longed for.

When, as a child, your fears creep in and your mind is choked and the comfort of a single small light glowing from the wall in the figure of Mickey Mouse gives way to sweet slumber:

Comfort.

That moment when the stains of the past grip your heart in cold painful fingers and refuse to release you from the past suddenly, the truth shines in. Someone has paid the price, the prison cell is open and freedom from sin stands before you in the simple yet profound choice of asking for it:

Savior.

How many different ways light can effect?

What a wonderful picture that even the smallest child prefers to be in the light.

Our souls long for the things that darkness (otherwise known as sin and wickedness) strive to put out of the world:

Peace
Joy
Freedom
Love
Patience
Kindness
Friendship
Companionship
Purpose
Calling
Fulfillment
Understanding
Comfort
Healing
Encouragement

There are all of these things in the Light:

John 8:12 “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world, he who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’”

If you are struggling in the darkness of despair, discouragement, worry, grief, loss, brokenness, illness, or any of the others, remember:

you do not have to stay there.

Look to the Light and find hope in Jesus Christ.

Not sure where to start?

Read the Gospel of John.

Open your heart to Jesus Christ and let His light shine upon your soul.

Choose to leave fear and doubt.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank You so much for light. Light of the Sun, light from bulbs, even the flashlight on my phone. Each one reminds me of how incredible You are. Your light shines into my heart and heals and restores me. It teaches me how to walk with You and how to avoid sin. Please, help me not only to see Your light, but to be the Moon and reflect You wherever I go. I love You, Jesus. Thank You.

The Son through the glass

These are so beautiful.

The delicate picturesque adornment tells more than the story it portrays.

As beautiful as each stained glass window is,

it’s unable to reach it’s full splendor on it’s own.

In the dark of the deepest night the beauty of the window is shrouded.

Only when the Sun shines through does the full amount of appreciation for each detail, each color come out.

The same goes for people.

Each and every person was carefully crafted by the finger of God.

Yet, the true beauty, meaning, and depth to each person can only be illuminated by Christ Jesus.

It is through the light of the Son, shining through humans as glass, where each individual’s true beauty is beheld.

“To give knowledge of salvation to His people By the remission of their sins, Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us; To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.”
Luke 1:77‭-‬79 NKJV (emphasis added)

Growing together

image

Photographs are often insufficient to give the entire view.

On a walk recently,
I came across these trees.

Each tree had obviously grown up close to the other,
their branches stretching toward the light,
their trunks almost hugging.

Then it struck me.

One tree was a  Douglas Fir and the other a Madrone.

Madrone trees are common.

They are a hard wood tree with smooth bark which curls off in red stripes leaving the lighter wood visible.

Douglas Fir are common.

The tree, named for our area, are a major part of the lumber industry of our county and state.

Being a softer wood it is used to make building materials which are then shipped all over the world.

How had these two grown together in such a way that both had what was needed to survive?

The question turned.

How do two people live close together with as many differences (or possibly more) grow together in such a way that both have what is needed to survive?

The answer was obvious.

God.

As I studied these two trees I noticed the Douglas Fir had only a few branches, thin and whispy, on the side the Madrone grew.

Madrone do not grow as tall or as quickly as fir, yet this one was tall for its diameter and had obviously grown in such a way as to reach the sun.

It has prospered in the area more light was reached.

The trunk of the Madrone had bent around the fir to be able to grow towards the light.

As a wife I have learned that my ability to love and care for my husband truly depends on my time spent in the Son.

Only in prayer and patience and growth in the Word have I learned to grow towards my husband.

Does he do the same for me?

Yes.
Absolutely.

But I can’t wait for him to move to allow more light in my life, I have to choose to do so, to stretch,  to reach for God’s Word and let it grow and strengthen me.

Just like God created these trees and the ability to adjust, so He has given me  life, completely suppling all my needs, not just physical, but spiritual, emotional, and mental.

In a marriage it takes a level of trust,
love, kindness, forgiveness, and selflessness to grow together which can only come from God.

Yes, there are people who are able to make a marriage survive who don’t know the Father.

However, I have never seen one that worked into a perfectly harmonious relationship without God’s hand.

God gives us the blueprint for marriage in how He loves us.

He is long suffering.

He is forgiving.

He is a comfort and guide.

He’s more…

So as I looked at these two trees,
growing up,
nearly wrapped around each other,
I thanked God for marriage.

I thanked Him for all I have learned through living with my husband.

I thanked Him for guiding me, stretching me, growing me, and
holding me up.

I thanked Him for being the Creator,
the water  which replenishes my soul,
and the
LIGHT
which gives me life.
