Opps!

Sniffing the steam rising from the pan of rice puzzlement filled me.

What was the sweet smell?

I checked the oven.

No the chocolate chip muffins were out.

That’s not it.

Hmm…

I stir the rice again.

Sniff, sniff

Why does my fried rice smell sweet?

I am sure the Lord pointed out the bottle.

It read: vanilla

Vanilla!

Ahh!

I had grabbed the vanilla instead of the soy sauce!

Deep breath.

What am I going to do with a pan full of rice I had liberally doused with vanilla?

Rice pudding.

I’ve never  made rice pudding…

Better than throwing it all away.

I flipped through my cookbook and found a recipe.

After placing it in the oven (I used the baked recipe so I could cook something else) I’m left with a big question.

What’s for dinner?

Thankfully God brought to mind a small ham and soon a large pot of soup was simmering on our stove.

I love the phrase:

But God…

Why?

There are many times everything seems to be going the wrong direction, then God shows His plan and it is far better.

Joseph said to his brothers who sold him into slavery.

“Do not be afraid,  for am I in the place of God? But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good,  in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.” Gen.50:18-19

The entire Jewish people were condemned to death by an edict the King’s right hand man carefully crafted. To his horror he finds the King’s wife is a Jew. Not only that she’s brave, Esther risked her own life to save her people. It cost Hamann his.

A husband and wife live many years without children only to be granted a son in their old age. And from the womb he is a man who knows God. John the Baptist is the man God used to prepare the way for Jesus.

The list goes on.

So what circumstances in your life seem to be a mess?

Perhaps the Lord is just waiting for the opportunity to turn supper into dessert.
